Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ـییور (-iyor, -ıyor), from Old Anatolian Turkish ـهیورر (-eyorur, -ayorur), ـهیور (-eyor, -ayor), from Old Anatolian Turkish یورمق (yorımaq), یورمك (yörimek), from Proto-Turkic *yorï- (“to walk”), which was used as an auxillary verb, compare Kazakh жүру (jüru) where it still is.
Cognate with dialectal Azerbaijani -iyour, Gagauz -iy, -ii, -er, -êr, Azerbaijani -ir, -ır, -ür, -ur (only in the sense of a continious action), Turkmen -ýar.
