țigănie

التعريفات والمعاني

== Romanian == === Etymology === From țigan +‎ -ie. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˌt͡si.ɡəˈni.e/ === Noun === țigănie f (plural țigănii) Collective term for all Gypsies living in a certain location, or (by extension) a block or area inhabited by Gypsies or the area where they live. Synonym: țigănime racket, loud noise, din, row Synonym: gălăgie impolite behavior ==== Usage notes ==== Because the latter two senses derive from a negative stereotype of the Romani people, and because the Pro-Roma association demonisates the word țigan claiming to be purely exonymous (despite its presence in many dialects, particularly Balkanic Romani and Iberic Romani under the form čingaren) , it is likely to offend Romani people (and not only them, also the people called ”Țigani romanizați” which are of mixed origin, not solely Romani) . See the note regarding the use of țigan.
