From Proto-Indo-European *ḱrem-; compare Proto-West Germanic *hramusō (“ramson”), Middle Irish crem (“dog's leek, buckrams”), Ancient Greek κρόμμυον (krómmuon, “onion”). Other forms in *k include Proto-Slavic *čermъša (“ramson”) and Lithuanian dialectal kermušė (“ramson”).
