şırdan
التعريفات والمعاني
== Turkish ==
=== Alternative forms ===
şirden
=== Etymology ===
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish شیردان (şirdan, “a vessel for holding milk, the second stomach of ruminants”), from Persian شیردان, from شیر (šīr, “milk”) + ـدان (-dân, “holder, container”).
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /ʃɯɾˈdan/
=== Noun ===
şırdan (definite accusative şırdanı, plural şırdanlar)
(anatomy, food) shirdan (the abomasum (fourth and final stomach of a ruminant) eaten as food)
==== Usage notes ====
Although not recognised by most dictionaries, şırdan is the overwhelmingly dominant form of the word compared to şirden.
Likely owing to its use in regional cuisine and a general taboo around eating offal, the dish is popularly mistakenly believed to be the animal's penis.
