From ültet (“to plant”) + -vény (noun-forming suffix indicating the result of the action). The verb is in turn derived from ül (“to sit”).
Compare typologically Proto-Slavic *sadъ, a deverbal noun from *saditi (< Proto-Indo-European *sodéyeti, causative of *sed- (“to sit”)).
