Inherited from Vulgar Latin *intunicāre, from Latin tunicāre (“cover with a tunic”), from tunica (“tunic”). Compare Aromanian ãntunic, ãntunicari. Compare also Italian intonicare, Spanish entunicar (which were internal formations).
