===== Usage notes =====
It is currently more common than its alternative form eszet, especially in phrases like osztja az észt (“to act the smart aleck”), nem állt kétszer sorba, amikor az észt osztották (“s/he didn’t stand in line twice when brains were dispensed”) or hátul állt a sorban, amikor az észt osztották (“s/he stood back in line when brains were dispensed”), and akinek az Isten hivatalt ad, észt is ad hozzá (“whoever is given office by God is given the [necessary] reason as well”) (also in the past tense and in its negated form). However, both forms are endorsed and acceptable. See also the quotations at eszet.
