From Ottoman Turkish چالقانتی (çalḳantı, “a violent shaking and agitation, nausea, disturbance of the heart or mind, what is thrown off as refuse by means of a violent shaking”), from Ottoman Turkish چالقامق (çalḳamaḳ, “to agitate, to shake about, for sea to toss about a ship or boat”), from Ottoman Turkish چالمق (çalmaḳ, “to strike, to knock, to perform music on, to steal”), from Proto-Turkic *čal- (“to hit, to strike”), morphologically çalka- + -n + -tı.
