=== Etymology ===
The first element from östra (“eastern”). It was added in 1885 to distinguish it from other locations with the same name.
The second element inherited from Old Swedish Nybbile, derived from Old Danish *nybyli (“new construction”). The last part löv is an otherwise common toponym, but was here added in the mid-17th century as a folk etymological addition.
Earliest known form attested since 1322 as Medieval Latin Ecclesiis Nybbile.
